When Did The San Antonio Spurs Get So Good?

Don't get me wrong, I knew the Spurs were a quality team. But this season has just been crazy. They are 52-12 on the season and 6 games ahead of the 2nd place Mavericks. When did that happen? I'm guessing it has something to do with their amazingly hot cheerleaders!
